Tâby Kirka


The election of the church was begun in the middle of the 13th century, the  vestry was people blyth added in the 14th century. The porch was built in the middle of the 14th century. The vaulting were also built during the 15th century. Previously the church used to have an open roof truss or perhaps a flat or vaulted wooden roof. The exterior of the church has been alteraded many time parcelaria as regards de windows . The belfry situated north of the church was erects in 1763.
The painting in the vaulting were made towards the end of the 15th century by the well know church painter Albertus  Pictor, Albert the Painter. The 66 scenes are taken from the Bible, mainly from the walls of the church had painting on them but whitewashing later on destroyed most of these.
The altar - screen is from the 15th century and was probably made in Germany. The principal scenes consist of Christ on the
Cross between the two thieves. (Christ in Gethsemane,  Christ being scoffed at an crowned with thorns. ..
The pulpit was a gift from Charles Xi in the early 1690's . Before that it was placed in the royal Palace church.
Between 1959 and 1961 the church was restored on the outside. In 1993-1994 a was restoration was made of the interior parts.
